Ogee & Gosh

or purchase through Ravelry or LoveCrafts.

Ogee & Gosh are two winter hats featuring colour work patterns inspired by motifs created by the resist dyeing technique known as Ikat that is used in textile weaving around the world. The hand-dyed colours of the Yarn Collective Bloomsbury DK used in this design create such a lovely varying depth of colour, it reminds me of the look of textiles straight out of the indigo vat. This PDF download includes instructions for both hats!!!!

Notes

Both versions of this hat are worked in the round from the bottom up and are constructed in the same manner with the same stitch counts, so you can work either chart version with either brim length as you prefer. The chart is worked using the stranded colour work method. Keep floats loose to maintain an elastic fabric. For floats longer than 5 stitches, twist yarns together on wrong side of work. Please check your gauge by knitting a substantial swatch in the charted pattern before beginning, as stranded knitting can work up tighter than you would normally knit.

This pattern uses the long-tail tubular cast-on method for working 1x1 rib which creates a stretchy and neat edge. Purl Soho has a good video tutorial available online for this technique, however if you prefer to use a different cast on method, I recommend using a regular long-tail cast on.
